What is Project S.O.A.R?

Project S.O.A.R is a program that was created as an outreach program to help teachers in middle and high schools introduce STEAM projects. S.O.A.R stands for SoCo Outreach for Academic Resources. This project was exclusively funded by Battelle.

What are Project S.O.A.R's Objectives?

  • Establish STEAM Teams: Form and facilitate STEAM teams in local schools or community organizations, fostering collaboration among students and educators.

  • Promote Diversity and Inclusion: Strive to have diverse representation in robotics teams, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to STEAM education opportunities. Enhance students' confidence and self-esteem by providing opportunities for them to excel in robotics competitions and projects.

  • Expand Access: Ensure equitable access to robotics and STEAM education by providing resources and support to schools or groups with limited resources. While also creating a sustainable program by establishing partnerships, securing additional funding, and training educators to continue offering robotics and STEAM activities.

  • Increase Participation: Increase the number of students, particularly those from underrepresented groups, participating in robotics and STEAM-related activities. Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication among students, preparing them for collaborative work environments.

  • Promote and Develop Skills: Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among students through robotics challenges and projects. Equip students with technical skills in programming, engineering, and robotics, preparing them for future careers in technology fields.

  • Engage the Community: Involve parents, educators, mentors, and community members in supporting and mentoring robotics teams and activities. Improve the quality of STEM/STEAM education by integrating robotics and hands-on learning experiences into existing curricular.
